Heonshik
Shin (
He earned PhD degree in Computer
Engineering at University of Texas at Austin, Texas, USA, where he also
studied biomedical engineering for master's degree. His undergraduate backgrounds include
applied physics at Seoul National
University(SNU) and biological sciences at Southern Illinois University at
At SNU, he has conducted various researches related to computer
engineering/science covering areas in mobile computing, distributed systems,
real-time systems, fault-tolerant computing, and data storage. Currently, he is
actively carrying out the research in mobile and embedded computing systems
with a group of graduate students. The primary aim is to develop software for
mobile devices whose operating system and middleware are characterized by
low-power multimedia processing capabilities.
At SNU, he served as Associate Dean for Student Affairs,
He also served as program co-chair for the Fourth International Workshop on
Parallel and Distributed Real-Time Systems in 1996,
and the Third International Workshop on Real-Time Computing Systems and
Applications (RTCSA) in 1996. In
2002, he participated in the RTCSA conference as general co-chair. He has been a member of program
committees for many international conferences including Real-Time Systems
Symposium, Real-Time Technology and Applications Symposium, and IFAC Workshop
on Distributed Computer Control Systems. He is currently an associate editor of
Real-Time Systems Journal and a member of the executive
committee of IEEE Technical Committee of Real-Time Systems.
